Uganda Hippos advanced to the semifinals of the Men’s U-20 football at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana.

Morley Byekwaso’s side prevailed to the semis after a 1-0 win over favourites Senegal.

Allan Oyirwoth scored the all important goal to earn the Hippos their second win in Group B.

They beat Nigeria 2-1 in their opening game last week.

In the 28th minute, Uganda were awarded a penalty after a foul on Usama Arafat.

Oyirwoth was entrusted with the responsibility but his effort had initially been saved before firing home on a rebound.

Senegal pressed for the leveller but couldn’t breakdown a resilient Hippos side.

Uganda cruised to the semis for the first time since 1999 when they finished third.

Meanwhile, the Hippos will end their group stage campaign against South Sudan on Friday while Senegal will take on Nigeria on the same day.
