African Games: Debutant Tumusiime scoops Uganda first Boxing medal

Ugandan boxer Innocent Tumusiime clinched Uganda’s first medal at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana.

Tumusiime stopped Lesotho’s Retselistsoe Kolobe in opening round of the Light flyweight bout at Boukum Boxing arena on Sunday.

The Ugandan is assured of a medal after securing a place in the semifinal where he will take on Congolese Tukembekwa Zola.

Another Ugandan Innocent Amoko cruised to the quarterfinal after stopping Seychelles’ Jovanie Darius Antoine in the opening round.

Amoko will next face off with Gebremariam Abrahm Alem of Ethiopia for a place in the semifinal stage.

Meanwhile, Bombers captain Muzamir Semuddu will return to action today (Monday, 18th March) taking on Ghana’s Henry Malmy while Kasim Murungi will battle Abdul Wahid (Ghana) who cruised to the Quarterfinals with a bye at round 1.

Uganda has so far garnered  a total of 9 medals these include two golds, three silvers and bronzes apiece as well as Tumusiime’s yet to be identified medal.
