African Games: History Beckons for Morley Byekwaso’s Uganda Hippos

Uganda U-20 Men’s National Team, Uganda Hippos will be seeking history when they face off with Congo in the semifinal of the African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Morley Byekwaso Ochama’s charges finished top of Group A with a 100% record after victories against Senegal (2-1), Nigeria(1-0) and South Sudan (1-0).

“We are happy with the way the team has played the group matches and now is the team to plan well for the knockout stage where we shall face Congo, “We shall not underrate any team because we are taking every match like a final.” Said Byekwaso

Usama Arafat, Ivan Irinimbabazi, Allan Oyirwoth and Apollo Kagogwe are the four scorers of Uganda’s four goals at the tournament respectively.

Congo on the other hand finished second in their group with five points and stand in Uganda’s way to the maiden African Games final.

The Congolese had to wait until the last day, when they came up with a remarkable comeback to defeat Gambia 2-1 in the final matches of Group A to reach the semifinal stage.

Uganda’s best performances in football at the African Games was in 1999 when the team reached the semifinals.

Byekwaso and his beleaguered troops have a chance to make with a win over Congo.

The other semifinal will see hosts Ghana battle Senegal who finished second in Group A.
