Kampala Queens needed a late winner from midfielder Teddy Najjuma to defeat She Maroons 1-0 in a round of 16 encounter of the FUFA Women’s Cup played at Lugogo.

Najjuma headed perfectly from a well delivered corner kick by captain Zaina Namuleme in the 86th minute of the game.

Kampala Queens had Zaina Nandede, Catherine Nagadya and Shamira Nalugya in their starting line up fresh from representing the Uganda at the All Africa Games but barely made an anticipated impact on the game.

Crested Cranes defender Bridget Nabisaalu marshalled the defense as She Maroons proved a hard side to break down by an opposition with an uninspiring and well coordinated display on any day.

Nabisaalu picked a cut on her forehead from an aerial duel with Nandede but soldiered on for the better part of the second half. Najjuma’s much needed winner came at the time Nabisaalu was temporarily off the pitch after receiving her second treatment from the medical team.

Kampala Queens who beat Elite League side Dynamic Jjeza 4-0 in the previous round became the fourth team to reach the quarter final stage this season following UCU Lady Cardinals, Makerere University and Rines SS.

Kampala Queens will face the eventual winner between She Corporate and Gulu’s Sacred Heart Ladies in the quarter final.

Elsewhere, holders Uganda Martyrs Lubaga were 6-0 winners over Entebbe Pride Ladies in a rescheduled round of 32 fixture.
