NEC FC became the first team to progress to the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinal stage after a 2-0 win over FUFA Big League side Police FC in the quarterfinal encounter at Kavumba Recreation ground on Wednesday.
Cromwell Rwothomio and Gadafi Wahab scored in eight half as Hussein Mbalangu coached side cruised to the semis.
Rwothomio gave the visitors an early lead in the third minute of the contest before Wahab sealed their victory in the 78th minute penalty.
NEC prevailed to their maiden final while the 2023 runners up will now turn to the FUFA Big League as they embark on the return to the Uganda Premier league.
Action in the quarterfinal stage will resume on Saturday when 2022 winners BUL FC host 10 time competition winners KCCA FC at Njeru Technical centre in Jinja.
On the same day, Regional League sides Pajule Lions and Packwach Young Stars will battle for a place in the semis at Pajule Primary School grounds in Pader.
The Quarterfinal stage will climax with the contest between Uganda Premier league leaders Kitara and Holders Vipers at Masindi Stadium on Sunday.
