Uganda Premier league leaders Vipers SC edged relegation threatened Wakiso Giants 1-0 at Kitende on Saturday.
Second half substitute Kenneth Kimera who was facing his former side scored the all important goal as Vipers maintained their lead at the top.
Kimera who replaced Marvin Youngman after the half time breather broke the deadlock punishing his former paymasters.
Before Kimera’s goal, Hudson Mbalire had a golden opportunity to put the Purple Sharks into the lead with the goalkeeper to beat but his effort was saved by Congolese custodian Alfred Mudekereza.
Mudekereza was the star on the night as he also saved Rahmat Ssenfuka’s powerful header.
In the final minutes, Mbalire again had another opportunity to put the score level but failed to tap in with the goal at his disposal.
Vipers prevailed to maximum points and the eighth consecutive win. They move to 49 points on the table, five ahead of second placed NEC FC who humbled Maroons 3-1 in Luzira.
Wakiso Giants remain in 14th position with 14 points and will next host UPDF FC on Friday, 28th March while Vipers visit SC Villa on the following day.
