REPORT: Vipers express interest in Spanish coach Aritz Lopez

Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC are interested in acquiring the services of Spanish coach Aritz Lopez Garai as their new head coach, according to Ghanaian Journalist Micky Jr.

Micky Jr reports Vipers have contacted Aritz Lopez, who is currently one of the most sought after coaches in Africa, for a possible move to Kitende.

The 43 year old Spaniard recently announced that he will be leaving Mauritania champions FC Nouadhibou at the end of the season after winning back-to-back league titles.

Besides winning two league titles in his two year spell in Mauritania, Lopez also guided FC Nouadhibou to a historic qualification to the CAF Champions League group stages for the first time ever.

Lopez has garnered interest from several clubs in Tunisia, Spain, Morocco as well as Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC.

Lopez kick started his coaching career in 2017 at Spanish side Reus Deportiu soon after retiring from active football.

He went on to coach Albacete, CD Tenerife, CD Numancia before he joined FC Nouadhibou in last season.

As a player, Lopez featured for Reus Deportiu, Sporting Gijon, Celta Vigo, CF Cordoba, Castellon, UD Salamanca, UB Conquense, CD Basconia and Gernika all in Spain.

He also had stints in Romania and Cyprus with Rapid Bucharest and Doxa Katokopias respectively.

Vipers are expected to appoint a new head coach to replace Richard Wasswa who was elevated from being assistant coach until the end of the season.
