Gambia name former Uganda Cranes coach McKinstry as head coach

The Gambia Football Federation has named former Uganda Cranes coach Jonathan McKinstry as their new head coach.

McKinstry has been managing Kenyan Giants Gor Mahia has been appointed on a two year employment contract.

“The Gambia Football Federation wishes to congratulate and welcome our new gaffer Jonathan McKinstry on his appointment as Head Coach of the Scorpions. Jonny, a former Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Rwanda coach, is the current manager of Gor Mahia FC in Kenya and will take over from 1st June, 2024. He’s to oversee our qualification for the 2025 AFCON and 2026 World Cup,” read the statement from the Gambia Federation

His immediate task will be on preparing the Scorpions for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers in June. Gambia is in Group F, alongside Kenya, Ivory Coast, Burundi, Gabon, and Seychelles.

The Northern Irishman has previously managed the Uganda Cranes, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Kenyan Giants Gor Mahia among others.
