Mahrez, Bensabaini excluded from Algeria squad to face Uganda at Namboole

Algeria national team coach Vladimir Petkovic has named a 25-man squad that will play against Guinea and Uganda in the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers next month.

Captain Riyad Mahrez is the biggest exclusion from Petkovic’s squad that has been published this afternoon.

The former Manchester City forward who currently plays for Al Ahli Saudi in Saudi Arabia, also missed Algeria’s previously friendly games against Bolivia and South Africa in March.

Borussia Dortmund left-back Rami Bensabaini together with forwards Youcef Belaili and Islam Slimani have also been excluded.

In the absence of Mahrez, long serving striker Yacine Brahimi will be the captain of the team.

Algeria will play against Guinea at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers on 6th June before facing Uganda at Namboole on 10th June.
