Algeria beat Uganda in World Cup qualifier at Namboole

Uganda Cranes suffered a 2-1 defeat to Algeria in Group G of the 2026 World Cup qualifier at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole on Monday night.

The Desert Foxes came from a goal down to beat Paul Put’s men.

Travis Mutyaba gave Uganda the lead in the 11th minute with a sensational strike to send the full to capacity Mandela National Stadium into elation.

Rogers Mato and Steven Desse Mukwala had decent chances to extend Cranes lead but couldn’t capitalize on them.

Early in the second half, Aouar Houssem Eddine Chaabane restored parity for the visitors.

West Ham United forward Said Benrahma sensationally finished off a quick counter attack after Kenneth Semakula had lost possession in Algeria’s half.

Algeria held on to the 2-1 victory and stay top of Group G with 9 points same as Mozambique who stunned Guinea 1-0.

Uganda stay on six points in the tricky Group G of the World Cup Qualification campaign.
