Kampala City business tycoon Hajji Hamis Kiggundu has named veteran sports administrator Rogers Mulindwa the Board Chairman of the newly refurbished Hamz Stadium located at Nakivubo War Memorial Ground within the City centre.
Mulindwa who also doubles as an Executive Committee Member of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) was recently the Chairperson of the organising committee for the highly regarded Grand Opening ceremony of the same facility on June 1st this year.
Kiggundu says Mulindwa’s commitment on duty and his exposure in sports both locally and internationally was the reason for this choice.
“We expect him to guide the stadium to further growth and ensure that the facility generates income for its sustainability.” Kiggundu said.
He added, “I have no doubt, Mr. Mulindwa will deliver us to a desired destination and I shall give him all the support he needs.”
Mulindwa officially started work on Tuesday and has thanked Kiggundu for the opportunity
“I am grateful to Hajji Hamis Kiggundu for this task assigned to me. This is not a full time job but I shall offer my best and together we shall direct our focuss towards continued improvement of this facility. Hamz stadium is strategically located and we shall ensure its put to proper use to avoid frustrating the private developer and investor.” Mulindwa said.
For starters, the Stadium was closed in 2015 and a project to renovate it was announced in 2017 as a collaboration between the Ugandan Government and Ham Enterprises.
At the redeveloped Stadium, Ham installed seats, a gym, modern boxing ring, Basketball court and Netball court.
The grand reopening was held earlier this month and featured boxing, kickboxing matches, football along with performances by top local artists.
