SC Villa pitted against APR as CECAFA Kagame Cup draw is held

The draw of the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup has been held today on Azam TV, Tanzania.

Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa have been drawn in Group C alongside Rwanda’s APR FC, Singida Black Stars of Tanzania and South Sudan’s Al Mereick Bentui.

APR FC is home to Uganda Cranes midfielder and former SC Villa captain Tadeo Lwanga.

Express FC who are the current defending champions were excluded from the tournament and their slot was subsequently taken by Zambian champions Red Arrows.

Group A consists of Coastal Union of Tanzania, JKU of Zanzibar, Dekeheda of Somalia and Sudan’s Al Wadi.

Group B is composed of Sudanese giants Al Hilal, Kenyan record champions Gor Mahia, guests Red Arrows and Djibouti’s Telecom FC.

The tournament will run between July 9th to 21st in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The top teams from each group and the best runner-up will automatically qualify for the semi final stage.

SC Villa have previously won the CECAFA Kagame Cup on three occasions; in 1987, 2003 and 2005 and will be returning to the tournament after 19 years.
