Reigning Olympic 3000m Women’s Steeplechase champion Peruth Chemutai will be seeking to retain her title in Tuesday’s final at Stade de France.
Chemutai prevailed to the final as the fastest qualifier when she won her Heat in Sunday’s semi-final with a time of 9:10.51.
Chemutai who is the first Ugandan woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal following her triumph in Tokyo three years ago will be aiming to defend her crown.
The Ugandan runner is in shape again having went to Paris with the fastest time in the world over the distance this year in a time of 8:55.09 minutes.
Kenyan world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech and 2023 world champion Winfred Yavi of Bahrain are Chemutai’s main challengers for gold.
The home faithfuls will be cheering European champion Alice Finot of France. If she is anywhere near the front for global immortality in Tuesday’s final at the electric atmosphere in Stade de France.
Meanwhile before Chemutai’s search for double glory, Winnie Nanyondo will be the other Ugandan in action when she battles for a place in the Women’s 1500m semi-final on Tuesday morning (11:05am).
