Ugandan government sets Prize money for Paris Olympic medalists

The Ugandan government has promised to reward every medalist at the Paris Olympic games with a cash prize.

Athletes who will scoop gold at the Paris games will receive Shs100M from the government while silver medalists will bag Shs50M.

Bronze medallists will get Shs30M, according to the development from the State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang

“As head of delegation, I met with Team Uganda this morning, at the Paris Summer Olympic Games and conveyed government’s support and special greetings from H.E President Kaguta Museveni and the Minister of Education and Sports, Mama Janet Museveni.”

“To reemphasize our commitment to supporting sports, we have set prize money of Shs100m, Shs50m and Shs30m for any athlete who wins.” Ogwang confirmed the development via his social media platforms

Joshua Cheptegei and Peruth Chemutai each bagged Shs50M for their triumph in the men’s 5000m and women’s 3000m Steeplechase at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago respectively.

Cheptegei earned an extra 30M for his silver in the 10,000m while Jacob Kiplimo received 20m for his 10,000m bronze medal. They were also rewarded with cars.
