Paris Olympics: Uganda’s Orogot targets 200m Men’s Semifinal

Ugandan sprinter Tarsis Orogot will be seeking to progress to the semifinals of the 200m at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Monday night (9:02Pm).

Orogot will be in the second Heat where the top three runners will prevail to the semifinals.

Those that fail to make the top three will have another chance of progression in the Repechage Round.

Athletes that are disqualified, did not start (DNS) or did not finish (DNF) don’t take part in the Repechage or second chance.

Orogot who is currently ranked 13th in the world will be targeting a final at the Olympic games in Paris and compete against the best in the business such as 100m Olympic champion and world champion in the 200m Noah Lyles and reigning Olympic champion De Grasse among others.

The Ugandan reached the semifinal stage of World Championships in Eugene, USA (2022) and Budapest, Hungary (2023).

Orogot lowered his national record this year with times of 19.90 seconds in mid-April and 19.75 seconds in mid-May in Gainesville.

Meanwhile, Leonard Chemutai is the other Ugandan athlete who will be in action today and will be eyeing a place in Men’s 3000m Steeplechase Final.

Chemutai will be in Heat One at 7:04Pm with the top five in each heat advancing to the Final.
