•NEC FC 3-1 Vipers SC
Nikola Kavazovic’s Vipers reign got off to the worst possible start with a 3-1 defeat to NEC FC at MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Sunday evening.
Muzamir Mutyaba and former Vipers SC players Rwothomio Cromwell and Paul Mucureezi were on target for the Hussein Mbalangu coached side.
Livingstone Mulondo scored for the Venoms on the day they were buttered by a brilliant NEC side.
Coming into the new season, hope was high at Kitende with the appointment of Serbian tactician in Kavazovic as well as new recruits, but Vipers have come back to Earth with a bump following the loss.
Veteran midfielder Mutyaba fired the hosts into an early lead to send Lugogo into elation.
Vipers however levelled matters through defender Mulondo’s header in the 26th minute from a corner kick but his goal could only turn into a consolation.
In the 59th minute, Rwothomio restored NEC’s lead with a tap in from a perfect Rashid Okocha’s cross.
Moments later, another former Vipers player Mucureezi completed the scoring with a third goal for NEC FC.
Vipers were unable to turn around the scoring and as a result, Kavazovic suffered defeat in his first Uganda Premier League encounter, while NEC FC secured a first-ever win against the six time league champions.
