Wakiso Giants will officially start the Steven Bengo and Tony Mawejje era with a home duel against Soltilo Bright Stars at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium this afternoon.

The duo took over from John Ayala Luyinda who parted company with the club at the end of the previous campaign.

The Purple Sharks have been a busy side in the transfer market and have managed to bring a couple of new signings to replace the departed ones.

The latest additions have been David Bagoole Tong Po and Marvin Oshaba acquired as free agents from Vipers and Express respectively.

Experienced James Alitho was also signed from URA FC as a direct replacement for Bashir Ssekagya who joined Vipers.

Tanzanian defensive duo of Shaibu Mtita and Issack Emanuel Mtengwa were acquired on loan from Yanga as well as Zambian winger Erick Kabamba.

Josephat Ayebare, Hudson Mbalire, Vincent Zziwa and Derrick Kaija are the other new recruits.

As usual Soltilo Bright Stars have been silent in the market but have managed to sign Marvin Youngman back from Vipers SC.

The Joseph Mutyaba coached side have brought in John Lincoln Mukisa (from Wakiso Giants), South Sudanese forward Atari Khamis Tobs, youngster Mustapha Khamis and Pascal Oketcho from Kaaro Karungi.

Hassan Matovu, Sam Ssenyonjo, Dennis Kaka Omony, Yasin Mugume, Isa Bugembe and Derrick Kiggundu left the club for greener pastures.

Despite their departures, Joseph Mutyaba says his squad is good enough to put up a fight this season.

Mutyaba says his personal target is finishing in the top five but that will depend on what his players offer him on the pitch.

“The squad is ready to put up a fight in the new season, We want to be in the top 5 this season, that is my main goal as an individual.” Mutyaba boldly states.

On facing Wakiso Giants, Mutyaba says his team will be a bit cautious in some aspects against a side with a similar playing style as theirs.

” They are not an easy opponent since they play a similar style of play to ours, so it will require full mental focus from us throughout the match.” He added.

Bright Stars will be without midfielder Fiat Cleophus and striker David Kiiza who are sidelined by respective injuries.

The previous 10 meetings between Wakiso Giants and Soltilo Bright Stars have seen both sides win on three occasions.

The other four meetings have ended in draws, including the last season’s meeting (1-1) at Kabaka Kyabaggu.
