On Tuesday, 14th January 2025, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the postponement of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The tournament was scheduled for 1st February to 28th of the same month in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
CAF stated the postponement for the tournament to be hosted in East Africa (Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania) followed advice from technical and infrastructure experts that more time is required to end that the infrastructure and facilities in the three countries are at the levels for hosting a tournament of such a magnitude.
Despite the postponement, the group draw for CHAN will go ahead as planned in Nairobi on Wednesday, 15th January 2025 even though the final line-up of teams is yet to be decided.
The draw will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (“KICC”) in Nairobi, Kenya with local East African legends Hassan Wasswa (Uganda), Mrisho Ngasa (Tanzania) and McDonald Mariga (Kenya) conducting the draw.
Nineteen nations were initially due to take part before Libya and Tunisia withdrew from the finals.
CAF is expected to announce details of another qualifying competition to take place ahead of the rearranged tournament.
