Former Vipers SC defender Ashiraf Mandela was on the score sheet as Police FC played out to a 2-2 draw with AS Kigali in the Peace Cup quarterfinal in Rwanda.
Mandela dedicated his goal to his fallen friend and former teammate at Vipers SC Abubaker Lawal who passed on last week.
Ironically, Mandela’s goal was against Lawal’s former side and current home for Emmanuel Okwi AS Kigali.
The right back had an undershirt that had words of tribute to the late Lawal: RIP IN PEACE Abubaker Lawal. You will always be remembered.”
Mandela’s Police FC are the holders of the Peace Cup in Rwanda and will continue with their defense after overcoming AS Kigali 4-3 on aggregate, having won the first leg 2-1.
Lawal died under unclear circumstances with Police Preliminary Reports indicating that he fell off the balcony of Voice Mall in Bwebajja where he had gone to meet his Tanzanian friend Omary Naima.
Police also revealed that investigations are still going to identify the cause of death. The Nigerian was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Sokoto on Monday this week.
