The Uganda Cranes will have to negotiate their World Cup Qualifier against Mozambique on Thursday 20th March without winger Rogers Mato.

Mato will miss the contest due to suspension having received two yellow cards in the most recent games of the campaign.

Mato was booked in 90th minute during the 1-0 win over Botswana last year in June before seeing another yellow in the 23rd minute in the 2-1 defeat to Algeria.

Mato, who currently plays for FK Vardar in North Macedonia, has been one of the mainstays in Paul Put’s team since November 2023.

His absence creates a void on the left side of the attack that will most likely be filled by Allan Okello, Denis Omedi or Jude Ssemugabi.

Mato will however return to action when the Uganda Cranes host Guinea at Namboole in the subsequent outing on Tuesday 25th March.

It is full house in the Cranes camp in Cairo following the arrival of goalkeeper Isma Watenga and Israel based defender Denis Awany.
