The inaugural Jinja City Marathon wa officially launched on Saturday, 22nd March 2025 at Jinja Sailing Club.
Katukiro of Busoga Kingdom Joseph Muvawala Nsekere, Second Deputy Katukiro Al Hajji Ahmed Osuman, Jinja City Speaker Bernard Mbayo, Albert Amanya the RDC of Tororo District and FIST Uganda Director Nelson Balyejusa all graced the official launch.
Under the theme “Run the Nile, Explore Jinja, and Save a Life,” the marathon will take place on Saturday, 24th May with the Kit at a cost of Shs25000
Deputy Katukiro Al Hajji Ahmed Osuman urged Busoga Kingdom subjects and well wishers to take part in the Marathon that will not be about fitness or fun but running for support a cause that truly matters.
“I call upon the people from the Busoga Kingdom, well wishers and all Ugandans to come and participate in this Marathon. We will not just running for fun but for a cause of improving maternal healthcare in the region.” Stated Osuman.
Starting at the iconic Jinja Rugby Grounds, where runners from across the globe will come together to celebrate health living, community, and the adventurous spirit that defines our city. From the Source of the Nile to the vibrant streets of Jinja, this is your chance to run in one of Africa’s most unique destinations.

•21km Half Marathon

•2km PWD Race
This is a special category dedicated to celebrating resilience and determination. Open to participants of all abilities, fostering inclusivity and empowerment.
Meanwhile, Proceeds from the Jinja City Marathon will go toward improving maternal healthcare in the region. Uganda faces significant challenges in maternal health.
