Uganda Cubs to battle Gambia for Dream U-17 World Cup Slot

Uganda Cubs have learnt their opponents for the playoff match to determine who progresses to the U-17 World Cup.

Uganda Cubs will battle The Gambia on Saturday, 12th April 2025 for a dream World Cup Slot following the climax of the group stage games at the ongoing U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Gambia suffered a 2-1 defeat to Tunisia that saw them finish third in group C. Senegal and Tunisia prevailed to the quarterfinals of the competition as well as the 2025 World Cup.

It should be remembered that Uganda also finished third in group A behind host nation Morocco and Zambia. Brian Ssenyondo’s side managed one win against Tanzania and lost to both Morocco and Zambia respectively.

Africa will have ten slots at this year’s World Cup with eight already taken by U-17 AFCON quarterfinalists Morocco, Zambia, Tunisia, Senegal, South Africa, Mali, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
Meanwhile, Angola will meet Egypt in the other playoff match.
