Tanzanian giants Simba SC progressed to the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals after eliminating Egyptian side Al-Masry on penalties on Wednesday at National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
Simba lost the first leg meeting 2-0 in Egypt last week, levelled the tie on aggregate during the second leg with the similar score in normal time.
Two first half goals from Elia Mpanzu and Ugandan international Steven Mukwala saw the tie end in a 2-2 aggregate stalemate.
The victor was to be determined via a penalty shootout with the Tanzanian entity prevailing 4-1 on penalties.
In the shootout, Mukwala who levelled the tie on aggregate scored his kick with Ahoua, Denis Kibu and Shomari Kapombe also converting their spot kicks.
Ben Youssef was the only player to convert for Al Masry who crashed out of the competition.
Simba who had failed to reach the last four will now face the winner between South Africa’s Stellenbosch and Zamalek in the Semifinal.
