Gombe SS crowned champions as UMEA Games climax in Kayunga

The 2025 UMEA Solidarity Games successfully climaxed at Namagabi Secondary School in Kayunga District on Monday April 21st.

The edition attracted 49 schools from different corners of the country with Aringa SS from Yumbe being the longest travelers.

Gombe Secondary School emerged as the overall champions after winning four gold medals in Chess and Handball for both girls and boys.

Masaka SS beat Kibuli SS in a thrilling and closely contested Boy Football final 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw in full-time.

Masaka successfully defended their Boys Football title having won last year’s final held at Masaka SS.

Kawempe Muslim also won their umpteenth Girls Football title after beating Nkoma SS 3-0 thanks to first half goals from Agnes Nabukenya, Kevin Nanyunja and Monica Nanono.

Greenlight Islamic won the Netball title after beating Hamdan Islamic 22-21 in a closely contested final.

This year’s edition saw the introduction of Chess and Scrabble (mind games) which were eventually won by Gombe SS and Kawanda SS respectively.

Kibuli SS won Table Tennis whereas Kinaawa High School – Mugongo campus and Mbogo Mixed won Volleyball for Girls and Boys respectively.

Mbogo High School and Kibuli SS won Badminton for Girls and Boys respectively.

UMEA Solidarity Games patron Prince Kassim Nakibinge was the chief guest on the closing day ceremony.

The 2026 UMEA Solidarity Games will be hosted by Nkoma Secondary School in Mbale City.

The 2025 UMEA Solidarity Games successfully climaxed at Namagabi SS in Kayunga District.

Gombe Secondary School emerged as the overall champions of the tournament after winning four gold medals while Kibuli SS finished as the eventual runners up with three gold medals.

Masaka SS and Kawempe Muslim successfully defended their football title for the Boys and Girls respectively.
