The USSSA Boys’ National Football championship semifinal tie between joint record competition winners St Mary’s Secondary School Kitende and Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) was abandoned due to protests from fans.
The game was abandoned in the 39th minute with 11-time competition winners Kitende leading, courtesy of a Dennis Kisiriko 3rd minute penalty strike.
The ugly incidents happened when the assistant referee had cancelled JIPRA ‘s goal for an offside call in the 39th minute.
Angry JIPRA fans attacked the assistant referee for cancelling the goal.
The assistant referee ran towards the center of Ngora playground to save his dear life. Police came to the rescue of the match officials.
The onus is now left to the local organizing committee to make the final decision in regards to the incidents.
Meanwhile, Buddo SS reached the final of the USSSA Boys’ National Football championship for the first time since 2018 after eliminating Teso based Bukedea Comprehensive School 5-4 on penalties after a goalless stalemate in normal time.
