Ayala and Muhumuza Join Elite Club after Cup double with Vipers

Vipers co-coaches John Ayala Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza etched their names into history after leading Vipers SC to their second domestic double after Stanbic Uganda Cup triumph on Saturday at Kadiba Stadium.

The Venoms beat KCCA FC 2-0 at Kadiba Stadium, thanks to goals from Livingstone Mulondo and Yunus Sentamu to scoop a second cup double.

Ayala and Muhumuza joined Alex Isabirye Musongola to have led the Kitende based side to a Cup double. Isabirye achieved this feat two seasons ago. Now the duo of Ayala and Muhumuza has replicated that success.

SC Villa beat Tobacco 2-0 to lift the Uganda Cup days after their league triumph that year.

Geoff Hudson is one of the two foreign coaches to win a double. He guided SC Villa to the domestic double in 1988 and 1989 beating Express FC 3-1 and 4-2 respectively in the Uganda Cup finals to add to their already secured league titles.

In 1995, Jimmy Muguwa led Express FC to their only domestic double after beating KCCA FC 4-3 on penalties in the Uganda Cup final following a goalless stalemate.

Paul Hasule led SC Villa to the 1998 and 2000 cup double. In 1998 the Jogoos beat Simba 2-0 to lift the Uganda Cup trophy in 1998 adding to their league triumph and two years later, edged Military Police FC 1-0 in the final.

In 2002, Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic guided SC Villa to their sixth Cup double following their 2-1 win over arch-rivals Express in the final.

Mike Hilary Mutebi led KCCA FC to their only Cup double in 2017 when they beat Paidha Black Angels 2-0 in the final thanks to Geoffrey Sserunkuma and Derrick Nsibambi goals.

Alex Isabirye Musongola became the first Vipers SC head coach to win the double when his side defeated Police 1-0 in the final held at Akii-bua Stadium in 2023, Milton Karisa netted the only goal of the game. They had secured the league title days before on goal difference.
