The 2025 Buganda Masaza Cup will officially get underway with the Bulange group clash of titans between reigning champions Buddu and Gomba on Saturday at Kitovu Sports Arena.
Buddu under the stewardship of Eric Kisuze will be hoping to kick start their title defense on a high.
Kisuze has Masaza Cup experience having previously served as head coach at Kabula as well as assistant at Mawokota. He is also the head coach of reigning University Football League champions Uganda Martyrs University.
Buddu are three time competition winners having won it in 2016, 2021 and 2025.
Gomba are the record competition champions with five title to their name, this year they will be coached by Simon Peter Ddungu alias Dunga.
Ddungu is the reigning Masaza Cup winning coach having won it with Buddu last year. He will be seeking to make a winning start at his previous home.
This is his second stint at Gomba having led them to the 2017 triumph. Gomba also signed last year’s top scorer Robert Ssewanyana (Buluuli), Herbert Onen (Buddu), Joseph Ssewaali (Ssingo), Michael Abura (Mawokota) among others.
Gomba has the event a record five times in 2004, 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2020.
The two sides last faced off in the semifinal of the 2023 edition with Gomba humbling Buddu 3-1 on aggregate.
The prestigious competition is sponsored by Airtel Uganda, Plascon Uganda, Pilsner and Centenary Bank.
