Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso eyes knockout place against Borussia Dortmund in their second FIFA Club World Cup match.
Sundowns the home to Uganda Cranes legend Denis Masinde Onyango got their campaign off to a perfect start with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ulsan HD, and now shift their focus to one of Europe’s biggest clubs in what promises to be a stern test of their credentials on the global stage.
Ahead of the match, Cardoso stressed the importance of the tournament to his side as they set sights on the knockout phase
“I said it the first day the first press conference, and today again: thank you very much for FIFA for organizing such a wonderful event, and obviously for us Mamelodi Sundowns we earned the right to be here, it’s a wonderful pleasure to have been profiting from the organization from the possibility of competing at such a level.”
“This is absolutely fantastic, because what we also want as a club is that we fight for the rights that we acquire, but we also want to develop, and being in an organization like this competing with the best one, will ultimately, and at least provide us with growth and challenges for the future.” Said Cardoso
Victory for Sundowns over the German giants would guarantee them a spot in the last 16 of the competition.
