Hoima City Stadium set to be completed in July

Turkish contractors SUMMA who are carrying out construction works at Hoima City Main Stadium have confirmed that by July the Stadium will be 70% complete.

Construction works at the $129 (Shs490.2 billion) facility started in September last year and according to the project manager Murat Altun, roofing works are underway after the installation of seats.

“The main stadium is at 70% completion and will be done by July. We are working day and night to ensure the stadium is ready for the hand over to the Ministry of Sports by December this year.” Said Altun

According to the contractors, the football pitch, mini indoor arena, semi-Olympic Swimming pool and outdoor courts will be completed before December this year.

The stadium is intended to be used for the first time, during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament. The stadium is one of the three stadiums that Uganda plans to use during the tournament, that will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The 20,000 capacity seater stadium will sit on a total of 34.9 acres (14.1 ha) of which 10 acres (4.0 ha) was donated by the Estate of the late Dr. Rujumba.
