Ugandan offensive midfielder Pius Chris Akena has parted ways with Kenyan record champions Gor Mahia.
Akena joined Gor Mahia as a free agent in August last year from Greek third tier side Apollon Pontou.
Akena confirmed his departure from the Kenyan record champions via his official X account,
” As I turn the page to a new chapter I carry with me countless memories that have shaped me both as a player and as a person. It’s been an honor to contribute to such a remarkable team and to share so many victories, challenges, and triumphs with all of you.Thank you, Gor Mahia” Akena tweeted.
Akena is a product of the Qatar Aspire Academy as well as a former player of Maroons FC in Uganda.
He has previously featured for Shabab Al Ahli and Al Rams FC both in the United Arab Emirates.
Akena played for Greek third tier side Megas Alexandros Agias Marinas before switching to the second tier club Apollon Pontou.
Akena has two caps with the Uganda Cranes earned in 2022 under coach Micho’s stewardship. He played for Uganda in friendlies against Iraq and Bahrain in January 2022.
Former SC Villa striker Charles Bbaale is another Ugandan player at Gor Mahia having joined the club in February from Rayon Sports.
