Niger will become Uganda’s 20th different opponents at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) when the two countries face off at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole on Monday.
Niger are also Uganda’s eighth West African opponents in the competition and the Cranes have managed three wins, two draws and lost as many in the previous encounters over West African opponents.
In previous games against West African teams, Uganda have managed wins in 2014, at the 2022 edition, and at the current finals against Burkina Faso, Senegal and Guinea. They have two draws against Mali in 2016 and Côte d’Ivoire in 2018, and two losses to Togo in 2020 and Côte d’Ivoire in 2022.
For Niger, Uganda are their 15th CHAN opponent and the first East African opponent at the finals.
Uganda is also the third host nation that Niger is facing having lost to Sudan on penalties in the quarterfinals of the 2011 edition and a semifinal 5-0 defeat to Algeria in 2022.
