A dramatic Group C finale awaits Uganda, South Africa and Algeria

Uganda, Algeria and South Africa will be vying for two quarterfinal places in the dramatic Group C conclusion of the at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The 1-1 stalemate between Guinea and Algeria as well as South Africa’s goalless draw with Niger left Group C finely balanced heading into the final round of fixtures.

Uganda the only side to have managed two wins in the group currently sit top on six points.

South Africa and Algeria are level on five points, with Algeria ahead on goal difference, while Niger collected their first point but remain bottom alongside eliminated Guinea.

Co-Hosts Uganda who have never progressed past the group stage of the competition need a point against South Africa under the lights of Namboole to seal a place in the last eight.

South Africa who will be Uganda’s 21st CHAN opponents must beat Uganda to advance to the quarters.

Meanwhile, 2022 runners Up Algeria requires just a point against already eliminated Niger in Kenya to prevail.

Niger’s stalemate with South Africa on Friday officially ended their campaign but will be fighting for pride against the North African side.

Guinea with four points also bowed out of the rearranged competition in East Africa.

Uganda will be aiming to join their fellow co-hosts Tanzania and Kenya into the last eight of their event.
