The 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Co-hosts Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya all progressed to the quarterfinals of their own carnival.
This edition of CHAN is the first ever to be co-hosted by three nations and now, all three have booked their place in the last eight.
Uganda Cranes surge to the Quarterfinals in dramatic fashion
Uganda Cranes had failed to reach the knockout phase in six previous CHAN appearances, but miraculously sealed a place in the knockout after 3-3 draw with South Africa under the lights of Namboole on Monday night.
The Cranes topped Group C with seven points after winning two games, a draw and one defeat in their four group games.
Algeria finished as runners up with six points same as South Africa who were eliminated by fine margins. Guinea ended with four points while last edition’s semifinalists Niger were bottom on two points.
Uganda will stay home for their quarterfinal against a team that will finish as runners-up (Senegal or Congo) in Group D.
Debutants Kenya reach last eight
Debutants Kenya also progressed to the last eight by topping Group A with 10 points.
The Benni McCarthy coached side are still unbeaten in the tournament and finished ahead of 2020 champions Morocco.

Kenya will remain in Nairobi for their quarter-final clash with Madagascar on Friday evening.
Tanzania impress in Group B
Tanzania were impressive, powering past Group B as leaders with 10 points.
The Taifa Stars won three of their four matches, only dropping points in their final outing against the Central African Republic, a dead rubber.

Tanzania had stumbled twice, but this time marched on to the last eight on home soil. They will face Morocco in their quarterfinal contest on Friday night.
