Uganda Premier League main sponsors StarTimes fear the ongoing fight between clubs and FUFA over the new reforms could hinder the image of the league.

Last month, FUFA through its Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson confirmed a new league format of three rounds.

However, clubs such as SC Villa, Vipers SC, KCCA FC and fans through their respective groups threatened to shun the new format.

UPL Secretariat released the first round fixtures for the 2025/26 campaign.

Aldrine Nsubuga, the Vice President StarTimes has fired a warning regarding the new UPL reforms.

“We want and pray whatever format everyone is happy with. Can you imagine us promoting a game in which fans are saying we won’t come.” Imagine us promoting a season and the people we want to seduce are unhappy with the format, it doesn’t make sense and does not add up.” Said Nsubuga before adding,

“It’s our prayer as a business and brand that we are part of something that everyone perceives positively.” He noted while appearing on Nbs Sport.

StarTimes have been the main sponsors for Uganda’s top-flight division since 2018 when they signed a ten year deal with FUFA.
