Uganda Cranes will be seeking to build on their dominant performance over Mozambique when they welcome Somalia in their Group G of the FIFA World Cup Qualifier match at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
Uganda shred Mozambique 4-0 with Allan Okello, Rogers Mato and Elio Caprodossi scoring the four goals for Paul Put’s men.
The result saw Uganda leapfrog Mozambique in second place with 12 points.
Somalia lost 3-0 to Guinea in their previous game which was also played at Mandela National Stadium last Friday. They are bottom of the Group with just one point, conceded 14 goals and scored 3 goals in this World Cup qualification campaign.
Uganda Cranes head coach Put has warned his players against any form of complacency.
“We played very well against Mozambique, but that is now in the past. “We have to see Somalia, and we expect no easy game because there are no easy games in Africa. We have to be ready like we did against Mozambique and get a good result.” Said the Belgian
Captain Khalid Aucho also warned his teammates over Somalia
“This is a derby, and in Africa, there is no big or small team. Everyone wants to win. The good thing is we are at home, and all we want is three points. We recovered well, everyone is in good condition, and we are ready. So we call upon fans to come in big numbers better than the Mozambique game.”
Denis Omedi who missed Uganda’s victory over Mozambique through suspension returns to the team.
Uganda tied with Mozambique on 12 points and six points below group leaders Algeria who face Guinea in Morocco.
The Cranes will be praying they overcome Somalia and Guinea completes a double over the Desert Foxes, a result that will blow the group wide open.
