Gulu University smiled to a narrow 1-0 win over Pepsi University football league debutants Lira University on Wednesday.
Nyeko Rogers scored the important goal in the 27th minute of the contest to send the home fans into ecstasy.
In the final minutes of the game, defender Solomon Okello thought he had levelled matters for the visitors when he head home a perfect free kick but celebrations were cut short due to offside.
The home side held on to maximum points as they target a place in the knockout phase this season for Lira University they will seek to build on their second half performances for rewards in their next group matches.
Meanwhile action will resume tomorrow when Kumi University entertain inaugural champions Makerere University in Kumi.
