The 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage qualifiers in Africa climaxed on Tuesday, 14th October 2025 with nine nations securing slots in next year’s global showpiece.
Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and South Africa all topped their groups respectively to qualify for the event in USA, Canada and Mexico.
Africa however has a chance to be represented by 10 nations after a play off.
The four best second places nations who were determined after points deduction of results against the bottom placed sides will lock horns in the continental play off.
Gabon finished second in Group F with 19 points , followed by Sebastien Desabre’s DR Congo on 16 points while West African rivals Cameroon and Nigeria were 3rd and 4th respectively on 15 points.
Uganda missed out on a play off slot after finishing 8th with 12 points.
Gabon, DR Congo, Cameroon and Nigeria will battle in the continental play off with the winner taking part in the inter-confederation playoffs to determine the team that will join the North American carnival.
The continental play off semifinals are scheduled for November 13th with the final slated for November 16th in Morocco.
