KCCA edge Mbarara City to reclaim Top Spot

KCCA FC assumed the Uganda Premier League table summit with a 2-1 win over Mbarara City at Kamwenge on Friday.

Herbert Achayi who was making a return to the side from national team engagements and in form Ivan Ahimbisibwe were the scorers of KCCA FC goals.

Muhammad Kanyike’s first half equaliser could only turn into a consolation for the Ankole Lions.

Achayi gave the visitors the lead in the 16th minute when he headed in a Joel Sserunjogi perfect corner kick.

The lead shortlived when Kanyike restored parity for the home side.

KCCA regained their lead five minutes into the second half when Ahimbisibwe nodded Achayi’s quality cross.

KCCA held on to maximum points and leapfrog SC Villa at the top with 17 points while Mbarara City are second from the bottom with just five points.

The league will resume tomorrow when Vipers SC host title rivals SC Villa under the lights of Kitende while Maroons will face off with NEC FC in the other fixture.
