Sam Ssimbwa’s spell as the assistant coach of the Uganda Cranes has officially come to an end following the expiry of his contract.
Swift Sports understands that Fred Muhumuza has been assigned to replace Ssimbwa with immediate effect as the AFCON tournament draws closer.
Ssimbwa was appointed as Paul Put’s immediate assistant in November 2023 but leaves the position despite the Belgian signing a new two and half year contract.
Muhumuza has proved to be one of the suitable coaches in the country having led Vipers to the domestic double last season alongside John Ayala Luyinda.
Muhumuza also served as a co-coach with Morley Byekwaso as Uganda reached the quarter finals of the CHAN tournament held this year.
The former SC Villa and Victors midfielder previously coached at URA FC and Bumate United as well as Tooro Province in the FUFA Drum Tournament.
The Cranes will be facing off with Nigeria, Tunisia and neighbors Tanzania in Group C of the forthcoming AFCON tournament in Morocco.
Paul Put is expected to announce the Uganda Cranes squad very soon as the preparations for the anticipated tournament kickoff.
