Egypt 1-0 South Africa
Mohamed Salah scored the all important goal that guided Egypt to a 1-0 win over South Africa in an AFCON Group B contest in Agadir.
Salah calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 45th minute after Khuliso Mudau fouled in the box.
Two minutes later, Egypt were reduced to 10 men after Mohamed Hany was sent off for a second bookable offense on Teboho Mokoena.
Egypt had to negotiate the entire second half with a player less whereas South Africa relentlessly pushed for a breakthrough.
There was a penalty call in the first minute of the added seven as Egyptian defender Yasser Ibrahim blocked Mokoena’s shot with his hand but the VAR review ruled no penalty.
The important victory automatically qualified Egypt to the round of 16 of the tournament having garnered six points from two games played.
Egypt will play against Angola in the final group game while South Africa will face Zimbabwe.
