SC Villa presidential hopeful Farouk Meywa has rejected what he has described as an unlawful extension of Hajji Omar Mandela’s tenure to two years.
While addressing the media at Old Kampala on Saturday morning, Meywa asserted that the incumbent administration along with the club trustees are planning not to hold elections but extend Mandela’s leadership to two more years.
“The current club leadership is planning to extend Mandela’s tenure in office to two more years and not to allow fans to elect new leaders this year.” We know they plan to continue with his leadership but we won’t accept that and we are ready to battle him in court.”
“The club belongs to the fans and they are mandated to vote for their respective leaders every four years. So we are not going to accept what is being planned.” Said Meywa
Meanwhile, SC Villa Spokesperson Asan Kasingye while addressing the media about Sunday’s Annual General Meeting scheduled in the Kampala Suburb of Kulambiro-Ntinda, said that all registered Villa members who are interested in leadership positions should come and pick nomination forms.
“I call upon all fully registered members who are interested in leadership position to come and pick nomination forms at the AGM.”
Incumbent Mandela returned to the helm in November, 2021 after his official departure in 2004 and appears to be ready to continue serving the club in the same capacity.
Most SC Villa faithfuls still believe in Mandela’s leadership that saw the club end it’s 20-year title drought during the 2023/24 season.
SC Villa is Uganda’s most successful football club with a record 17 league titles, 9 Uganda Cup trophies and 3 CECAFA Cups.
