UBF to provide free Boxing Rings to Events Promoters, suspends sanction and Boxers license fees

The Uganda Boxing Federation has on Wednesday held a stakeholders meeting with promoters, managers and matchmakers of in the field of professional boxing in Uganda at Ibamba Restaurant in Kampala.
UBF called the meeting to among others to enlight the participants with their obligations, requirements and expectations as regards to the National Sports Act, Cap 151 specifically Section 23.
According to Moses Muhangi the UBF boss, said that they held a great engagement with the promoters, match markers and athletes managers who agreed to comply with the law.
“We had a successful stakeholders meeting between the federation, promoters, athletes managers and match markers. We had a great engagement and discussed the various sections of the law and we are all in agreement that we comply with the law. We certified match markers. We are transiting from the old formation to the new one.”
The meeting that had 8 Boxing Promotional Companies, 15 Individual Boxing Promoters, 3 Match Makers, and 8 Athlete Managers have been issued with their respective Licences for the period one year January to 31December 2026.
At the meeting, promoters raised several challenges they face including High Boxing Ring hire fees, Event saction fees and Boxers licence fees.
Muhangi asserted that UBF has decided to intervene by suspending Event Sanction fees, Boxers Licence fees for 1 year (2026) and has also provided free Boxing Ring to Promoters.
“We realised that the promoters are facing some challenges in regards to organising fights. The challenges include hiring rings and sanction fees. Since, we are in a transition we decided to help them with free rings and we have suspended the sanction fee for the promoters and boxers for period of one year. We believe that’s the best we can do now as federation until maybe when the government comes out and gives us more money.
This decision is aimed at enabling our promoters to have more boxing events throughout the country.” Said Muhangi
He also confirm that they will work hand in hand with Police to curb unlicensed fights.
“We have agreed that we will have joint efforts with Uganda Police, National Council of Sports, Minister of State for Sports to curb activities of quack or Unlicenced Promoters/Managers/Match Makers.” Warned Muhangi
Ssenyange Zebra Junior hailed UBF for the new incentives
“I am very happy for the new incentives that the federation has they have given us like suspending sanction fees as well as providing rings to us at our events.”
Babu Yusuf of Babu Promotions also thanked UBF for suspending sanction fees and having free rings provided by the federation.
“Previously as promoters, we have been struggling with hiring of rings as well as sanctions. The federation has helped us by providing free rings, suspended sanction fees and i believe this is going to help us organise more fights unlike previously were we had to scoop from our pockets.” He stated.
Mutehangwa Michael Ngoboka a promoter from Mbarara promised to promote boxing in Western region.
“I am really grateful that i have secure a licence to promote boxing in western region. I have always loved it and i will work with other promoters to uplift boxing in our region.”Said Mutehangwa
TopBoy promotions, Ziso Promotions, Babu Promotions, Nara Promotions, Eventix Marketing Smc Ltd, Zebra Mando promotions, Brawn boxing club ltd and Contemporary Sports agency are some of the promotion companies that were issued with certificates.
Ashinda Faisal, Zzimbe Ibra and Mutyaba Colline are the three match markers who attended the meeting while Kamulaasi Rodgers, Zziwa Mbabali David,Mukasa Eumia, Ddamulira Henry, Zzimbe Ibra, Mbogo Aron and Elvis Lwanga are the athletes managers who were present.
