Nine time Stanbic Uganda Cup winners SC Villa cruised to a 2-0 away win over URA FC in the first leg of the semifinal of the Uganda Cup on Monday night at Nakivubo.
Najib Yiga and an own goal from Moses Aliro handed the Jogoos a massive advantage over the tax collectors.
Yiga gave the visitors the lead when he finished off a brilliant move that was started by Patrick Jonah Kakande and Hassan Mubiru.
Earlier into the game, Joseph Ssemujju came close to scoring for the home side but was denied by goalkeeper David Lukwago.
In the second period, the tax collectors enjoyed more possession but couldn’t break down the Jogoos defence with their best chance coming off Dissan Galiwango’s free kick.
The left back forced goalkeeper Lukwago into a decent save as the tax collectors continued to search for the leveller.
In the closing stages, Aliro scored into his own net following pressure from Villa’s second substitute Andrew Otim.
Following the first leg, the two sides next face off on 16th May at FUFA Kadiba Stadium to determine the aggregate winner. Villa last reached the final of the competition in 2015 while URA went all the way in 2014.
