Mbarara City moved seven points clear of the relegation zone with a hard-fought win over Lugazi FC at Najjembe on Wednesday.
The result saw the Ankole Lions, overtake Lugazi and reaching 23 points they have garnered this term.
Against Mbarara City, it was a contest between two teams that are still in the relegation battle this term.
Both sides were desperate for points to boost their survival chances.
Clinton Kamugisha who has been in fine form scored the sole goal of the contest in the 52nd minute.
Kamugisha has played a vital role in Mbarara City’s relegation fight, scoring a brace in the 2-2 draw against Maroons, netted in the Ankole Lions’ 2-1 win over Express.
Mbarara is now 12th on the table on 23 points after back to back wins against the Red Eagles and Leaders. They are also seven ahead of the drop relegation zone with three games left.
Lugazi drops to 13th place after suffering defeating though with the same number of points as Mbarara City.
