URA FC earned a crucial point against Vipers under the lights of St.Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Friday night.

The two sides drew 1-1 with Ronald Otti and Usama Arafat scoring for either side.

URA needed just a point to mathematically secure topflight status next season while Vipers were desperate for points to extend their leadership at the top.

URA took the lead in the 35th minute when Otti headed home Isma Mugulusi’s quality free kick to stun Kitende into silence.

Hussein Mbalangu’s men held on to head into the halftime breather with a slender lead.

Four minutes after the recess, the Venoms levelled matters through Usama moments after Hillary Mukundane had his header hit the crossbar.

The home tried to search for the winner but couldn’t breakdown a resilient URA defence led by Otti as the two sides shared spoils.

Vipers are now on 60 points but Kitara can close the gap to three points with a win over NEC FC on Saturday. The Venoms next face Police FC at Kira Road Arena next week.

URA secure Uganda Premier League status following the stalemate and are now on 26 points. The tax men next host Calvary FC on May 12.
