Senegal clinched their second U-17 Africa Nations Cup Title after defeating Tanzania 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 stalemate in normal time in the final held in Rabat on Tuesday.
Tanzania took the lead through Hamis Chenga in the seventh minute of the contest held at Prince Moulay Hassan.
Ibrahim Dione restored parity for Senegal after Tanzania goalkeeper Haji Abdullahi had failed to handle Souleymane Commissaire Faye free kick in the 64th minute.
The winner was to be decided on penalties following a stalemate in normal time.
Faye, Sadio, Dione and Thior all converted for Senegal in the shootout, while Tanzania scored through Usuph and Mbegelendi but saw Kilendemo and Mbegu miss their attempts.
The victory secured Senegal’s second U-17 AFCON title and further underlined the strength of the country’s youth football development system.
Meanwhile, Senegal goalkeeper Assane Sarr was named the best goalkeeper of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2026, after playing a decisive role in Senegal’s title-winning campaign.
Tanzania midfielder Issa Mussa Chole was named as the TotalEnergies Man of the Competition at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 AFCON, Morocco 2026, after playing a key role in the Serengeti Boys’ historic run to the final.
Mussa’s Tanzanian teammate Dismas Shida Athanasi won the Golden Boot winner at the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2026, after finishing as the tournament’s leading scorer with three goals.
