Eight time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have on Tuesday, 30th June appointed French tactician Denis Lavagne as their new head coach.
Lavagne takes over the Kitende hot-seat on a two year employment contract replacing Belgian Ivan Jacky Minnaert.
He becomes the first frenchman to manage at Vipers and the tenth foreign coach in the club’s history.
Out of the nine previous foreign coaches at Vipers SC, only Portuguese coach Miguel Da Costa, Brazilian tactician Robertinho Oliveira and Ivan Jacky Minnaert have won silverware at the club.
Da Costa became the first foreign coach to win the league title at Kitende following the club’s 2017/18 league triumph.
Robertinho led Vipers to the 2021/22 league title as well as the Stanbic Uganda Cup triumph in 2021 and is also the only Vipers SC coach to lead the side to the CAF Champions league group stages.
The other foreign coaches at Vipers are Nigerian Ambrose Duru Chukuma, Kenyan Michael Nam Ouma, Mexican Javier Martinez Espinosa, Brazilian Leonard Martins Neiva,Brazilian-Spaniard Roberto Luiz Bianchi Pelliste and Serbian Nikola Kavazovic have all failed to deliver glory at Kitende.
