Victoria Pearls Whitewash Canada 5-0 To Retain Victoria Series Title at Lugogo

Uganda’s national women’s cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, completed a dominant 5-0 series whitewash against visiting Canada Women after a thrilling 12-run victory in the fifth and final WT20I of the 2025 Victoria Series at Lugogo Oval in Kampala earlier today.
The hosts, who were once again asked to bat first by the visiting Canadians, posted 101 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to handy contributions from captain Janet Mbabazi (26 off 31) at the top of the order, Rita Musamali (20 not out off 28) a match defining knock for Uganda in the middle of the innings, and a late flourish by the powerful Proscovia Alako who muscled an unbeaten 17 off 7 balls including 16 in the last over.
In reply, Canada were bowled out for 89 in 20 overs. Uganda’s new-ball specialist Jane Naume Amongin dismantled the top order with figures of 3 for 12, while debutant spinner Teddy Oyella
mesmerized the tail to finish with match-winning figures of 4 for 19, all four wickets coming in the
final over.

Team Uganda received their gold medals and winners’ crown from LycaMobile Uganda’s Chief Operations Officer (COO) Arvind Kakkar and Marketing Director Vikram Lal, alongside Cricket Uganda (CU) Chairman Jackson Kavuma.
Captain Janet Mbabazi expressed pride in her team’s consistency:
“I’m happy we met our targets and showed maturity against a new opponent. The girls’ hard work is finally paying off. This win builds our confidence ahead of the next international engagement when we go to Thailand for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Emerging Trophy next month.”
MVP Immaculate Nakisuuyi, who was also marking her 100th WT20I appearance, said:
“It’s good momentum for us as we prepare for the next major tournament in Thailand.Everyone executed their roles perfectly especially the bowlers. The batters didn’t have things going their way most of the time but in every match we found someone to carry us into a commanding position. We carry all the positive energy from this series forward.”
Canadian skipper Amarpal Kaur praised her side’s learning experience:
“It’s been an incredible tour. Despite the results, we’ve learned a lot about playing in new conditions and handling pressure. We’ll come back stronger. Expect us to do better as we travel to play another five-match series in Dar-es Salaam against Tanzania next week.”
