Hon. Denis Ssekabira scored a hat-trick as Uganda Parliamentary kicked off their Inter-Parliamentary Games title defence with a 4-1 thrashing of Burundi on Saturday under the lights of MTN Omondi Stadium.
Ssekabira, legislator representing the people of Katikamu North came on a second half substitute to score a sensational hat-trick for team Uganda.
John Lematia scored the the other goal for Uganda while Hon.Shabani Nimubona found a consolation for Burundi.
Lamatia gave Uganda the lead in the second minute of the contest before Nimubona levelled matters for Burundi.
Substitute Ssekabira bagged a second half hat-trick to give Uganda a bright start.

Hon. Muhammad Nsereko missed a penalty in the second half for team Uganda who were captained by FUFA President Moses Magogo.
Earlier, the Games were officially launched, signaling the start of two weeks where sport becomes a platform for regional diplomacy and unity. This year’s opening leaned heavily into symbolism: Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa presided over a colourful ceremony, followed by a spirited march from Parliament to Kololo legislators from across the region walking side by side in a show of solidarity and competitive spirit.

The Inter-Parliamentary Games again underline the EAC’s commitment to integration beyond political dialogue. Over the next 14 days, lawmakers will compete in football, netball, volleyball, basketball, athletics, golf, darts, tug-of-war and more effectively turning Kampala into the epicentre of East African sports diplomacy.
Uganda, as hosts, welcome delegations from Kenya, Burundi and South Sudan, each nation eager to showcase talent, foster camaraderie and deepen the bonds that unite the region.
Action continues on Sunday, 7th December 2025 as Uganda takes on Kenya on Basketball at the Lugogo Indoor Arena at 2 PM.
