Seven time Uganda Premier League champions Express FC head coach Jimmy Kintu has revealed that they have gone months without pay.
Following the club’s 3-1 win over Police FC on Wednesday, Kintu told FUFA Tv’s Sharon Nakayiwa that the club needs to fulfill and respect players and coaches contracts.
“People have contracts and have to be paid. This is not a charity organisation. “It is not right, especially for a team like Express FC to be struggling in such a way that players and staff take this long without getting paid.” Said Kintu before adding that unpaid wages are hindering the team’s performances
“Unpaid wages are affecting players’ welfare. Many have families and personal responsibilities.” Kintu added
Kintu joined Express from Calvary FC replacing Badru Kaddu who had sealed a move to NEC FC during the first round of the current season.
During the 2024/25 season, the club faced similar challenges when players at that time threatened to boycott games in case the administration didn’t solve the issue. Suubi Kiwanuka, the brother to Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka is the club chairman.
The Red Eagles are currently 10th on the league table with 26 points they have collected in 22 games this term. They also reached the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup before losing to Kitara FC.
